Slow Down the Effects of Aging With Your Own Genetics

    By February 21, 2017 January 18th, 2018 Weight Loss - Diet Tips

If you’ve been following our blog, or our products for that matter, then you know that our individual genetics have an effect on how our bodies process food and nutrients, as well as how well it will react to exercise.  We also know that if we know how our bodies react to food and exercise, then we can leverage that information to get the most out our bodies.  The same goes with how we age.  We can now leverage our genetic information to slow down the effects of aging.

At this point, you may be asking yourself: “How is that even possible?”

Not only is it possible, but the process for combating the effects of genetic aging is a simple one: locate your weak points and target them.  The first step to figuring out your weak points is knowing where they might be. With GxRenew, we give you insight into those weak points and provide the tools to potentially improve your personal aging process.

Here’s a few tips and tricks:

    The Sun!
The sun is very powerful.  It’s a crucial part of life on earth but, like pretty much everything, too much of it can be bad.  Some people can spend more time in the sun than others, and some people will age much more aggressively in the sun than others.  There are good products out there to protect yourself in the sun, just remember to re-apply often or it won’t do much good.

    Diet
In a previous post we talked about the negative effects of sugar.  One of the biggest one’s is that it can ruin your skin and increase aging.  While there are some people who may be able to stand up to this longer than others, this is something we should all know.  The short version: sugar causes glycation which results in glycation end products bonding to elastigen and collagen in your skin which causes your  skin to sag, become discolored, become rigid, and even crack.  The even SHORTER version: sugar ruins your skin.

    Exercise!
While it’s always recommended that you get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, this can’t be taken as a blanket recommendation. Everyone responds differently to exercise, especially as we age. It’s the reason why so many of us find it harder and harder to keep the weight off as we age. This may be due to a low fat loss response to cardio. If your genetic markers indicate that your fat may be a little more stubborn than others, you may need to exercise for longer or at a higher intensity or even consider weight training instead of simply doing cardio. Tailor your work out to your genes in order to optimize your results with age!

    Sleep
Catch some zzzz! Did you know that you can be genetically predisposed to sleep more or less? Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum, you should always aim to get sufficient sleep. This is the time when the body powers down, regenerates and heals itself. By limiting your sleep, you might actually be speeding up your aging process, so dim the lights, turn off the electronics, lay off the late in the day caffeine, and go to bed!

There’s really no secret to aging well. It’s as simple as listening to your body and giving it the care that it needs throughout its lifetime. GxRenew gives you insight into your predisposition for varying aspects that play a role in aging so that you can take that information and run with it. Our goal is to help you age gracefully so that every year of your life is an enjoyable one.
