DNA Sample Storage Consent

By choosing to have Genetic Direction store either your saliva sample or DNA extracted from your saliva, you are consenting to having Genetic Direction and its contractors access and analyze your stored DNA Sample, using the same or more advanced technologies, in a manner consistent with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you consent to storage and unless we notify you otherwise, we will store your DNA Sample for a minimum of one year and a maximum of ten years, at our CLIA-certified laboratory. We will contact you in the event we need to re-analyze your Sample. All the same safeguards to any further use of your Sample are described in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Why would I agree to have my sample stored?

Additional research into the linkages between genetics and many preventative and wellness health factors are published frequently. As this research is fully validated, Genetic Direction will enhance our interpretation algorithms and may include additional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (“SNPs”) into our client solution recommendations. By storing your DNA with our lab, this allows you (if you so wish) to have your DNA re-analyzed for these future SNPs and genetic markers allowing Genetic Direction to provide a more effective health management program recommendation without you having to submit a new swab sample and to receive a more effective program at a reduced price.

In addition, Genetic Direction will be offering many new health management / wellness products in the future. These new products may require us to re-analyze your DNA for the specific genetic markers associated with our new products. Having your DNA Sample on file will allow you (if you so wish) to purchase these products at a greatly reduced price.

What happens if I don’t agree to DNA Sample storage?

Your sample will be automatically destroyed by our lab within 45 days of analyzing the DNA.

Can I change my mind and opt out after I have opted in?

Yes. Simply notify Genetic Direction and we will instruct our lab to pull your DNA Sample and destroy it. This will typically take less than 30 days.
